Release 1.0.0
I am very excited to announce the release of version 1.0.0.
Although there was not that much time since the last update, there are many new features and improvements for the final release. Short time before the release, the focus was polishing. This is why the new features don't have a deep impact on the gameplay:
Cosmetics
I felt that it was often difficult to tell the different dungeon corridors from each other. In order to circumvent this, I added new textures on the walls and floors of the upper dungeon section.
Further, there are now wall inscriptions: one in the upper dungeon and one at the wall of the wizard's house. They can be read just like the bookstands.
Finally, there are some new decorative sprites like town lanterns and candelabrums.
Containers
Another rather cosmetic feature is a new entity: The amphora. The amphoras are distributed across the dungeon and they can contain loot (like potions or gold). They can be destroyed using the sword or the fire stone.
Even more cosmetics
When a fireball hit an enemy, it disappeared without any effect - until now.
The release features a small explosion when a fireball hits something:
Combat
In the previous post I wrote that defeating enemies was too easy due to the fact that they were drawn back by a sword hit. This has been compensated by the enemies moving forth again more quickly.
Interaction with the world (also cosmetics)
The main interaction with the world (besides talking to NPCs and collecting items) is using the sword. The sound for hitting an enemy was always a sound as if something soft was hit. This has been improved. Hitting any entity or wall makes a sound now. The sound depends on the material that was hit (stone, wood, metal, bone or a living creature). Now you can even hit the town lanterns
in order to make a sound. As an addition, dead enemies slide a little bit if they are hit with the sword.
Conclusion
After all the new features and the polishing work, the game feels well-rounded to me. I still have more ideas to put into this, like more NPCs, more story, different weapons - maybe even a completely different play mode. However, these won't be implemented for this game. I'll listen to the responses to this one and maybe keep those in mind for a potential successor.
So please, if you did not already, download the game. Please tell me if you liked it. Comment either here or on YouTube, leave a like or a rating and tell a friend if you had fun with it.
Best regards,
Carsten
